BIRD WATCHING CONTINUES

So not only have I seen white pelicans today but I also saw a turkey vulture. It was riding the air currents and checking out the landscape for a meal. A bit on the ugly side to look at but very graceful birds. Along the bird watching lines, I saw a red-tailed hawk being harrassed a couple of days ago by a smaller bird because it dared to soar too close to its territory. All of these observations have been made from my office window in a high-rise building on the west side of the metro area.

PELICAN(S) ARE BACK

So this morning started off with one pelican hunting for something to eat on the retention pond at work. It ended up with a total of five swimming around together checking the pond for munchies. It was cool to watch them. When you have more than one looking for food, they look like they swim in formation. It has been an enjoyable morning of bird watching.

White pelican

For the second time in about a week I have seen a white pelican on the retention pond where I work. The first time, about a week ago, I happened to see the bird gliding in for a landing. It was an awesome site, this big white bird with a nine-foot wingspan gliding in so elegantly and gracefully for a landing on the water. I missed it landing this time. Both times it has gone about looking for something to eat. Not sure there are any fish in the retention pond but it sure is checking it out. Wish I had a camera so I could get a pic. I will probably need my 35mm. Not sure my digital can get in close enough.
