Was pi--ed the other day. We have some demolition/construction going on in the wing of the building I work in. Well last Friday (Feb.17) they were demoing a wall. Just to be sure that we did not forget and try to walk thru they secured the doors to the area with some wire. Don't know just how tightly secured the wire was but damn it that is against Fire Safety standards. Plus I think OSHA might have something to say about it too. They basically made one of our points of egress (exit) unavailable in case of emergency. I had a little talk with one of the Facility people and it was removed. Then on Wednesday I went to the ladies room, which is on the other side of the building. The construction guys were getting ready to leave. Did not think anything about until I came back and could not get in the exterior door to the wing. It was LOCKED! Had to go downstairs, thru another groups office and up the stairs to get to my office. Told my supervisor. Tried my key which was supposed to work and did not. While I was doing that the door I had exited closed and locked. Had to go downstairs, . . . . . . Told the super that key did not work. He gave two others that might work. They did not. Found a doorstop and propped door open so no one else could get locked out. Super was to talk to Facilities about door. Must have because I think it has been left propped open since Wednesday eve. I was just a little hot under the collar about the whole thing. Found myself asking "Where are these guy's brains? There are people working here and we get locked out if we go thru the door!!" I will be so glad when the construction/remodeling is done and they are gone.
